Growing up in Southern California with its beautiful beaches, weather and people, one thing is for certain: these are all wonderful factors that can add to life’s enjoyment. Yet this enjoyment would be impossible to experience if we did not have the health to do so. As Greek philosopher Heriphiles once observed, “When health is absent, wisdom cannot reveal itself, art cannot become manifest, strength cannot be exerted, wealth is useless, and reason is powerless.”  Recognition of this truth is often taken for granted until the day our health is seriously impacted. It is then that many of us begin to take the necessary steps to correct this slap on our life style so we can still enjoy life to the fullest possible. With this awareness in mind several years ago, our family began making changes in our eating habits as well as our personal lives. Not only did this give us renewed energy to carry on our daily tasks, but it also made us feel and look younger. Moreover, this feeling of well-being had an added benefit: it helped us appreciate with greater clarity the small and simple things in life, the good friendships to be had, a smiling face, the sound of crushing waves, the touch of love……. Out of these transformational changes the family was experiencing, the idea of opening a restaurant that would promote healthy eating habits and gratitude was born. Rabano, to our family, is more than just a place to eat delicious food—it is our sincerest compliment to the good things life has to offer.
